/0 Comments/in Past workshops & events /by Philosophy MidlandsYou are invited to a study day entitled:
‘Practical Mindfulness – To Simply Be’ Workshop
at Newland House, Edgbaston, Birmingham
On Sunday 21st February, 9 30am to 4 00 pm
Cost £20 including vegetarian buffet lunch and all refreshments
Everyone is invited, including family and friends.
Throughout the day we will explore:
- A holistic model of Man.
- How a superficial essence covers up our true authentic essence.
How the quality of the energy of nature (the Guna) affect body, mind and heart.
- What forces and influences affect us that prevent us simply being our true Self.
- The role the human brain plays in all of this, including a TED talk from an eminent neuroscientist who had a stroke.
- What we can do to regain balance and simply be.
- Mindfulness and Meditation, the difference between the two.
- Practice of Tai Chi, Intuitive Drawing and simple Sounding.
The aim of these workshops is to provide a useful opportunity for students, friends and family to meet together and practice with a little more focus in a conducive, friendly environment, what has been discussed to enable us to discover more fully from a practical point of view what is presented at the evening philosophy meetings. A very useful and enjoyable day for self-discovery.
The day will be conducted in the school’s usual open and relaxed manner, beginning at 9:30am and finishing at 4pm. The cost for the day is £20 which includes a vegetarian buffet lunch and all other refreshments.

Freedom Workshop
/0 Comments/in Past workshops & events /by Philosophy MidlandsYou are invited to a study day entitled:
The ‘Freedom’ Workshop
at Newland House, Edgbaston, Birmingham
On Sunday 3rd July 2016; 9 30am to 4 00 pm
Cost £20 including vegetarian buffet lunch and all refreshments
The general subject for the day will be freedom.
Over the millennia, in many different ways it is what humanity has strived for, lived for, fought for and died for.
But what is freedom? Of course there is the obvious physical freedom from repression, tyranny and slavery but philosophically it means much more than that.
So throughout the day we will discuss:
What is the nature of true freedom?
- What impedes true freedom, how is it lost?
- Why does everyone have a need to be free?
- What can we control in our life?
- What can’t we control?
- How can we avail ourselves of true freedom?
As always the day will contain practical elements to help us in our discovery of answers to these important issues.
We will practice:
- Tai Chi
- Calligraphy
- ie working in a mindfulness way with movement and attention, both essential for daily living.
The day will begin at 9am for coffee and registration, the workshop will start at 9:30am and finish at approximately 4pm. The cost is £20 with a beautiful vegetarian buffet and all refreshments included.
As always these days, I look forward to spending a warm, friendly, peaceful and (hopefully) enlightening day with you.
All are welcome including any family or friends you think may be interested, although we do have to limit the numbers to 20 people for practical reasons. So if you want to come please book early to save disappointment.
To secure your place on the workshop you can enrol using the form at the bottom of this page.
I look forward to seeing you,
David Nock
